I have long hair, which is origianlly a light auburny brown, but in about july 2006 dyed it black. I have only coloured the roots since. What is the procedure to get it bright barbie blonde (like chantelle from big brother for anyone in the uk!)? And will it take its toll on my hair? For example, will it fall out?!?!?! Thanks!!!

Dying it blonde will take a few steps and will dry out your hair. But! A plan of attack is always not far off and here is my battle plan!!
One! DON'T DO IT YOURSELF! You could risk it and it has a very high chance of turning out crap OR you could just front up the money and have it look great. Go to a hairdresser!!
Two! TREATMENTS DAMMIT! Always with the treatments! Getting your hair back to blonde will take it's toll, no doubt about it. And so you must look after it. If you've got long hair you may or may not use good products to keep it looking grand. But I would invest in some nice protein treatments (which, handily enough can be bought at the hairdresser) and use them every few days or so. Keep your hair looking and feeling great and the end result will be grand. Use them before and after. The healthier your hair is, the better it will take with the onslaught!
Three! STAGES! You will not get your blonde hair back in one visit. You could try it, but MEGA risk everything blowing up in your face. I don't know if you did or if you needed to, but when dying from blonde to black you put a red in the middle. This stops the black looking greenish. Same process going backwards. Your hairdresser will prolly suggest this. Personally I wouldn't do it in one hit even if the hairdresser suggested it. You gotta remember that hair is dead from the roots down. If you piss it off too much it'll pack up and leave.
Three easy steps! And your hair will be fantastico! Because your hair is long and because going from black to blonde is a harsh process I wouldn't risk it at home. Not worth it in the slightest!! :)

It is possible but will end up possibly wrecking your hair so bad you may have to end up with shoulder length blonde hair. Firstly you will need to get all the black stripped out of your hair which may take several attempts then hit the bleach bottle (All done at a reputable hairdressing salon). Good luck! any dye will wreck the hair, and i've heard that the stuff they use to dye hair black is much more toxic than bleach for the blonde. Whatever you decide to do use plenty of good conditioner and use a restructuring/conditioning mask once a week. Btw it wont fall out as such but the hair will be prone to breaking easily that's why you should use the special conditioners for it to protect against further damage. Good lluck.

you hair wont fall out however its best to let a hair dresser do it for you. any type of bleach drys your hair out big time but if you use alot of oil on your hair like (V05 hot oils) your hair will look great

First off if you have colored your hair black, you cannot just use a blonde color kit. IT WON'T COLOR IT. Also if your hair is naturally black using a barbie blonde wont come out barbie blonde. It would be a waste of money. You'd have to do an all over bleach which is very dangerous if you don't know what youre doing. Always remember it always looks darker with the bleach on it. Have a water bottle ready! Start out with the bottom back first and start up taking small layers at a time and make sure the bleach is soaked the hair. Also, keep the bleach at least one inch away from the scalp, hair riht by the scalp will process faster then the rest of your hair, for the fact that your scalp is warm. Keeping a good eye on it, when its the color you like then saturate the hair with water but remember the top of your head will not be the same as the bottom of your hair. So only spray with water if that layer is the color you want it. When youre finished you rinse out the bleach fully. When that's all said and done, chose a color that will cover nicely. I also recommend doing a deep conditioning treatment after the color is rinsed out.
As for your hair going orange... It has to go through the different color stages. If its still orange that means it hasn't gone throught the full red stage yet.

A professional hairdresser must take on such a colour correction. Its not a case of just putting a dye over it, bleach is involved and if your not careful your hair can go orange!
Your hair condition will be very dry and pourous. It will need a good cut on it as it will be damaged from all the processing. If you are serious about changing your colour dramatically, seek advice and go for a consultation with your hair stylist who will advise you on the best way forward! Invest in conditioning treatments too!

Use Jerome Russell hair bleach (for medium to dark hair)
I have always used this for my hair and it's wonderful!
It's the only hair dye that i know that actually makes you barbie blonde!
Sure you're hair isnt gonna be in perfect condition because bleach isnt good for your hair but thats what you gotta put up with if you want bright blonde hair -- besides i have always bleached my hair and i love it! Just make sure that if you decide to do it it's best to use frizzies hair serum as it it wonderful for making bleached hair look gorgeous!!
For an example -- if you look at hugh hefners girlfriends - they all have bleached blonde hair and their hair looks fabulous -- you just need the right products to keep your hair looking at its best.

the hair wont fall out using the right products but it will damage it a lot! go have a chat with your local hairdresser, they will have to lift it with effasor or something similar. make sure you use a good conditioner after lifting it.

You will not get to that shade of blond without damaging completely and it can take up to about 5+ applications of a strong bleach and peroxide and after that it could still come out orange. I have a neighbour who dyed her blond hair black and she came to me and asked me to bleach her hair back (at this point her hair faded almost to a light brown) and I have so far Bleached her hair twice and she had previously bleached her own hair a few times before and it is still a Orange colour. She is currently using Ozzy miracle moist shampoo and Ozzy 3 minute miracle conditioner (lovely product to use and as good as professional ones used in a salon only a lot cheaper) She uses these product between her bleaching session (every 4-6 wks), Your hair can become brittle and break if you do this it can be a disaster my friend knows all what can happen and the damage it will do, but she does not care what it takes as long as she goes back to blond.
Being a hairdresser I will advise you to think hard about this because if you hair is important to you don't damage it to be blond because you will be disappointed with the results.
